Some comic book reviews for no one to ponder.

V For Vendetta HC collected New Edition- It seems that every Alan Moore story I read I'm never to sure about at the beginning. At first it was a little out there for me.....maybe I just wasn't getting IT? And it didn't help that it was set in England, and I know next to nothing about British politics or history. But I cannot stop reading something because of my own ignorance. But then it started to pick up pace and I started understanding what he was trying to get across. Maybe not all of it but it was slowly seeping into my head. This is one of those stories that you may be able to get on a basic level at first, but to comprehend it deeply it takes a while. I will go ahead and put this in the same category as 1984 and Brave New World. As far as tone goes in falls somewhere in between those two, but as far as affect on me I would have to trend it toward 1984. This was a supremely well written and well illustrated book. It's a strange book though, more akin to a serious novel than a comic book. And the description "Comic Book" is very inadequate. It's a little slow, very little action. But it will probbly be the best thing I have read this year. I really can't say enough good things about this book. Only a couple of problems plot wise, but all and all it was incredible. Would recommend anyone to read it, not just Comic Book fans.

Batman Gotham County Line #2- Batman and zombies!!! This is pretty good, nothing that I just can't wait until I pull it off the stack to read. But is a decent read, the art is good. Niles is writing it so you know its solid. I'm sure ill appreciate this issue more after the story is over though. It has a lot of intrigue and unanswered questions....so its worth readin.

I read a couple more things but I will post those later for the 0 people that care about this!

Hey I was just going around online reading some history of Grunge Music and stuff....and there is a lot of good info out there.......Witch led me to think that there needs to be some sort of large book published about the history of Grunge....

One of the quotes was pretty good it went something like this "Grunge could not have sustained its self because the very performers shunned big time exposure and big corporate labels....so in essence they didn't want to become huge, so the big record labels went and found someone who wanted to be big...ala stadium rock"

I thought that was a pretty good assessment of what happened. These artists didn't want to let "the man" dictate what they wanted to do, and it seemed they really didn't care how many people listened to them. Witch is partly the reason they were so appealing. Its funny that most of those artists don't really care that they aren't big anymore, some of them went to college after they realized what the music biz was all about!! I also found it interesting that the reason a lot of these people made the music they did was because of the 80's heavy metal and how much they wanted something different. Now we have the corporate machine that churns out crap that fills stadiums at an alarming pace I hope something akin to the Grunge movement happens again soon, but I don't think there is much hope in that.

But I was always wondering how these guys got big, and I read that it was all about independent labels. I always wondered how a big label would have ever signed the Screaming Trees. Now I know how....They didn't!

Anyway just rambling about nothing...

Now im not young enough to be in the age catogory that she is talking about so im kinda looking at this from the outside in.

But this does answer some questions for me about the mindset of the generation after me. I would like to think that nothing shocks me anymore......but some stuff still does. Witch I'm guessing I can tolerate a lot more than my parrents can take. So for these young kids now "nothing is shocking". Now pair that with a complete lack of trust in anything, and heap on a bunch of technology making it possible to become nameless and ananonymous in a large digital world.....without acountablity. This paints a frighteningly bleak picture of the future leaders. Not that I'm saying they do this on purpose or they need to "wake up" or "snap out of it" becuase I'm not. It's just that I may be the first one to belive that the generation after mine has it harder that I did. I mean they bascailly breed depresion from an early age now, they get pumped full of pills if they don't act right. All we got was a smack on the ass. And I have a child who is going to grow up with these people running shit. I really hope some things change but I fear they won't...Who knows. I'm just blatheringng away. Just something to think about.

It's the holidays so that is why i havent been posting here for a while and im sure they will be few and far between form here until afrer Christmas. Oh yea Merry Christmas to all. THERE I SAID IT. Now sue me you pansy fuckers.

On the fantasy Football front my team is 5-8 and I have had three consecutive week I scored the lowest points of the week. That statement should speak volumes for how my season is going. The good thing is I very well might make it to the playoffs. I need to win and I make it. But if I lose, one other person has to lose (witch is likely since they are worse than me). So maybe I can be a Superbowl spoiler!

I'm still not finished reading V for Vendetta. I got to say this story is getting pretty good, although I can't seem to wrap my head around it all yet, it seems as if I understand it.....But not on all the levels I should. I will put up a full review once I'm done reading it.

Well I lost yet again this week....How am I supposed to know that Leftwitch was going to break his ankle? Oh well as it sits I'm still in the playoff hunt. Need to win this week though.

Thanksgiving wasn't to great. The whole family was sick and my throat still feels like it is two sizes to big for my neck, anyway on to some reviews and some more crap later.

DAMPYR #6 LAMIAH- Still loving these, not sure if I'm getting used to the dialog or if this issue just translated better but I didn't notice it this time around. It's your classic two villain story but they pull it off nicely, this story was more about Telsa than Harlen but I have no problems with that. Ill keep buying these as long as they are translating them.

Having some troubles starting V for Vendetta, But ill dive into it soon.

No I don't have VD, I just lost in Fantasy Football by playing all the wrong people. But its alright the only games that count are the three comming up before playoffs. I HAVE to win these to stay in the playoff hunt.

Now on to showtime....Reviews.

Garth Ennis' 303- This was horrible. At the end I cant believe I bought it and read it, its been some time since I have been this disappointed in a book. The ending was rushed. This whole last issue seemed empty and souless. This will make me lerry of buying anything Ennis in the near future.

Marvel Monsters: Where Monsters Dwell- This is the last issue of the "Marvel Monsters" series and it doesn't disappoint. I liked it, again like the rest of them its just good old monster fun. Although the first story is by far the best one. Overall this was a great series from Marvel and it made me buy there comics witch I usually don't.

Revelations #3- I really cant get enough of this comic. From the writing to the art it is just a total package comic. I really cant say enough good things about this. Its moving along at a pretty good pace as to keep me interested but not feel rough. The only problem I had with this issue (albeit a small one) is there is a car seen that left me a bit confused and I had to re-read it a couple of times. But all in all it was great and I will keep buying this as long as they are making it.

Giant Monster #1- Not sure why but this comic made me chuckle. Not sure if it was intended to be funny, but it was. I liked it solely for Nat Jones' art. The writing is a straight forward "Monster grows big and destroys stuff". So you can imagine that it shows off Nat Jones' art really well. I preorder #2 so ill finish this out. Nothing really ground breaking on this. I have a feeling that this is going to end up similar to Fused, but we will see.

I got two more things left to read and then my next shipment should come in. Will post more later.

So about last night.....

I finally got the furnace fixed last night...whoooohooo. Now everything is fix around the house....For now, I'm sure I just cursed myself.

Bowled last night and I think I pretty much hit my average of 161. But I closed out the second game with a turkey and I rolled a 201 for my last game. I know that just shows I sucked it up for the second game. But we took two games and total from the team that was in fifth place (we are in fourth), so it was a big night.

I'm hear at work and it sucks the large meat whistle, but since I had to spend money on the furnace.....I kinda need some more scratch.

Big fantasy football game this week. I'm playing the only other 5-5 team this week so I could feasibly end up on the winning side this week. But the next three weeks will be the most important because they are the last division games for this year. If the season ended today I would still get a playoff berth.

Invasion: full season renewal. (This news just may piss me off, how can they drag this out into a new season?)

My Name Is Earl: full season renewal. (Good for Jason Lee, he is hella funny in this, and so is his supporting cast)

Everybody Hates Chris: full season renewal. (funniest show out there hands down)

The War at Home: full season renewal. (this aint too bad, the wife loves it.)

Supernatural: full season renewal. (It's cheezy but I like it)

Also the rumor on the street is that "It's always sunny in Philadelphia" is going to have a new season on FX with Danny Divito in it. That show was already hilarious now I can't wait.

And I already bitched about the two shows that are being canceled so I won't go back into that. Ill throw up some more reviews tomorrow.

Group wants to see humans extinct

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Make no mistake about it, the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement isn't anti-child, it's more like anti-human.
The VHE is dedicated to phasing out the human race in the interest of the health of the Earth, founder Les Knight told Wednesday's San Francisco Chronicle.
With 16,000 people born per hour and a current global population of 6.5 billion, there are already more than enough people on the planet, Knight said.
A 1994 study concluded a single person born in the 1990s would be responsible during a lifetime for 22 million pounds of liquid waste and 2.2 million pounds each of solid waste and atmospheric waste, the newspaper said. He or she will have a lifetime consumption of 4,000 barrels of oil, 1.5 million pounds of minerals and 62,000 pounds of animal products that will necessitate the slaughter of 2,000 animals.
"Wherever humans live, not much else lives," Knight said. "It isn't that we're evil and want to kill everything -- it's just how we live."
Knight, who had a vasectomy at age 25, emphasizes VHE likes kids and says many of its members are parents as well as children.

Yes its true, thanks to Dallas' defense I can now say I am .500 for the fist time this year. Fantasy football gods blessed me with a win after I tempted fate and put in Dallas' D! Now I need to win out the rest of the season! Well lets start with a win next week and maybe a wee bit more points than 68.

Now on to some things I have read over the last week.

Marvel Monsters: Fin Fang Four- Another in the marvel monsters series and it doesn't disappoint. Fing fang foom is pretty funny and the art is nice and fun. The back story of the original appearance of Fin Fang Foom was a good bonus....Besides the horrible stereotyping of Asian people, especially since they say "honorable" before everyone's name. But it was good old fashion fun.

Goon: Fancy Pants Edition HC- Ok this was more of a geeky buy than actual reading material. I have all the issues collected in this HC, but there is a forward by Eric Powell and a never before published story about Buzzard in there. There is also some nice new artwork and sketches and its signed by Mr. Powell. So yea nothing really new to read...But I'm a big fan of it!

Lonely Tombstone- This is a story that is in a format I've never seen. Also this was co-wrote by Steve Niles and his wife Nicki. The best I can compare it to is a 1/2 or a comic book. Anyway the story starts out great, its written more in a children's book format instead of the typical word balloon style of comic books. The art I loved, good job Mr. Roman. But the problem I had with it was the ending, it didn't really make sense with the rest of the story. It did make me chuckle, but really seemed like a cheap way to end a story that started so well. Anyway it was worth it for the art work.

Ok this basically says that the WB green lighted a new show about Aquaman....ala Smallville.

Mark my words this will be horrible. Just plain horrible. Don't forget that this is the network that decided not to air the pilot for global Frequency, witch would have been brilliant, instead they do this shit. Come on its Aquaman.... He was horrible in the JLA cartoon shows back when I was a kid. He always just seemed to summon a dolphin and attack a ship or what ever cause he was only useful in the water. Hey bad guy get an idea and get out of the water. But as a character he was uninteresting at best. Oh well people will watch it. Then there will be other "smallville" like shows centering on DC characters till they fuck away all the audience. And then there will be no more comic book characters on live action TV. And in other news FOX network has cancelled "Arrested Development". Finally Fox also canceled “Kitchen Confidential'' witch I only watched once because the premise looked very stupid, but turned out to be very funny and witty. Again fucked away! What is going wrong with TV network brass?

Some stuff for yall

Had a good night last night. Had some HOT AS HELL Verde yesterday to test and see how its made. Not sure ill make it that hot this weekend, and I think I'm going to try it with chicken. Went to the store last night and got all the stuff. After that I ate Whites........So this could make for a difficult day at work. Anyway enough talk about my bowels on to some reviews.

Planetary Crossing Worlds TPB by Warren Ellis- This was OK. Nothing too great here. The only two things I liked was that they killed Superman in the second story and I liked the way they moved though all the Batman's in the last story. It was good, although it really did seem that it was not needed and felt terrible forced from Warren. The art by Cassiday in the last story was very well done. Overall the book was decent.

Batman Gotham County Line #1 (Of 3) by Steve Niles- This marks Steve Niles first stint on Batman and its a oversized issue to boot! I really enjoyed this title. Great set up for what's going to happen in later issues and the art by Scot Hampton is just wonderful. Actually I don't think I would have just picked this up on Niles's name all alone, when I heard that Hampton was working with him on this I just had to buy it. Hampton's work was just marvelous on "Spookhouse". The pacing of the book was perfect and it gave just enough pay off to keep me interested unlike the TV show "Invasion" witch is getting progressively slower. So yea I liked this issue a lot and I cant wait until the next.

That is all I read so far. Should have a fun weekend of cooking and watching football with my boy, mom is going to be out of town most of Saturday so we can hang out and act like boys....Not that we don't do that anyway. Back to work. More later.

ALP is getting old and rather not funny. Ok that is really harsh for something that has brought me so much enjoyment. Lets just say I need a little change down there!

I actually won 2 weeks in a row in fantasy football...I cant believe it. If I get a win this week I can hit .500...Wouldn't that be just unheard of!

Also on Sunday I put in a new water heater, witch went especially well, so I assume something bad will happen right around the corner. Especially since I won in fantasy football, we won 2 games and total in bowling, and the heater started working....Something bad is lurking I can feel it!

Ok, now on to stuff I have read.

Finder by Carla Speed McNiel- This book was very confusing and it took me a while to get though it. It wasn't bad...It was just muddled. There were flashes of brilliance and then some pages that were just incomprehensible. I didn't know all of what was going on until the last couple of pages of the 130+ pages of the story. I'm not sure if that was a good or a bad thing. Also the lettering was just piss poor. I'm hopping since this was an independent comic that was written years ago that the other editions get better. Now that I think about it the art does get better as the book progresses. I will have to think long and hard about reading the next TPB.

Marvel Mosters "Devil Dinosaur" by Eric Powell- The bad thing about Powell is that all his characters end up looking like they are in the Goon. Now that really isn't a bad thing, its just I think he should stick with the Goon if he is going to draw everything looking like those characters. That being said, the story was good. It was just good plain fun and I suppose that's what marvel had in mind for this run of "Marvel Mosters" books. I didn't read yet the story in the back of the first appearance of the hulk, but I'm sure I will eventually. Its definitely worth the 3.99$ for both of these stories and the art by Powell.

Marvel Mosters "Mosters on the Prowl" by Steve Niles- Now this story was good. It had all kinds of characters in it, and it was hilarious. The art was solid. Besides that there isn't much more to say about this. It was funny, action packed good ole comics fun. And the Kirby story about the "Ninth wonder of the world" was also great. I hope the next two issues of this are just as good as these.

Fell #2 by Warren Ellis- Now this is a good comic. The art, the writing its just top notch. Its an independent story but it has background themes that tie all the issues together, but it can be read as a single issue and be understood. This book is making me more and more of a fan of Templesmith. There is a shot when Detective Fell kicks a door in that just plain gets it done. The blurred affect and the way its drawn really induces a thought of motion, it was just incredible. I can't say enough good things about this comic. And for 1.99$ how can you not try it out?

Ok that's all I have read so far, I have enough stuff to keep me busy until thanksgiving.

Tried to make some Chili Verde last night. While I wouldn't put it down as a disaster...I would have to say it could have been MUCH better. I have already found a new recipe and will try again this weekend while the wife is out of town...And the cooking peppers wont burn her eyes, sorry about that.

The good is that my Fantasy Football team won, the rams won and the Steelers Won. Also I have a week match up this week so I should get another win! Also my boy enjoyed wearing his costume around all night for Halloween. He really liked going to peoples houses and caught on to the idea of "Trick or Treating" so all that was good. Bad is that both my furnace and my washing machine is not working at the present time....So I will have to fix those both soon. Play poker tonight with the guys. Then tomorrow night my wife has to bowl. So maybe I can start fixing stuff on Thursday!

Anyway back to work.

Oh yea I should be getting a rather hefty order of comics and stuff this week. So after I finish reading this "Finder" thing, I will read and review all that junk.

Haven't had a cigarette in 4 days.....So that's going well. I've been smoking on and off ( mostly on) for about 13 years now. WOW does that seem like a long time! I never thought I would be smoking this long. I'm pleased to say I passed the first test witch was bowling yesterday. No smokes at bowling. Oh yea and to top it off....I rolled a 256, I think that is the highest I have ever rolled. Ended with a 571 series....So I'm going to go ahead and pat myself of the back for not smoking and bowling well. I'm at work so this sucks....But football tomorrow. Team Stallion's need a huge win this week. I think we can pull it off. The Rams also need a big win in the Dome this week....Although I don't think that's going to happen. And just as a mental note. QT vanilla steamer mixed with coffee mixed with hazelnut flavoring is the BOMB.

Halloween is comming up and I would like to say I'm excited about it. But alas I am not. Not sure what is going on...just not too excited. I used to love it, but that was a couple of years ago when we still had serious Halloween party's were we would dress up and get good and liquored up. Now I should be excited because this will be my boy's first "Real" Halloween (his first one he was too young to have any idea and I suspect he still is) but we tried his costume on him the other night and it was too tight and he hated it.....but he likes his hoooooge Scooby Doo slipper, oh well. I will spend the night lugging him around, fighting with him to put on his costume so people can gush over him....while he hates life in a huge monkey suit. But I guess it will be fun seeing him get an idea of what is going on....who knows. I cant wait till he gets a bit older and we can sit around and watch horror movies together and put together a real costume for him...you know something like a headless horseman....something good. Well at least there is Football on Sunday. I completely don't care about my fantasy team anymore. Well that's a lie. I cant stay away even if I am 2-5. Hey I can still make the playoffs! Maybe my Halloween woes will subside by Monday. Come to think of it I did carve a pumpkin for the first time in years so that has to count for something right? And who was in charge of making Halloween compete with Monday Night Football? That was a gross scheduling error. Anyway that's it for now.

I really enjoyed this book. The only other book I have read that I can compare this to is 1984. But unlike 1984 I don't feel so disturbed after reading it. Witch could be good or bad I haven't decided. The book is set in a future Europe were the government has perfected basically cloning, and has made society into a utopia....But at the cost of art and religion. Everyone acts like kids.....They do what they want when the want. Witch is kinda a lie because the government controls what they want by way of classic conditioning and sleep conditioning. Now I can accept the classical conditioning bit, you can see that in everyone, but the sleep stuff I think is a bit far out there. Anyway the story revolves around a "Savage" that is not part of the civilized world, actually he is an Indian. So he struggles with the type of life were there is no love, art, religion or pain. Only instant gratification and useless work. On the whole it was good but there is a couple of parts that twist the belief system of the society to further the story.....But its acceptable. The premise of the story is a scary prospect just like 1984 because you can defiantly see a Governmental body trying to do these things. I mean the media does it everyday. It tells you what you should and should not like. It tells you what is good for you....Witch is always to watch more TV, Movies. ect.... But anyway its a good book. Some of the science is off, and sometimes the way he bounces back and forth between scenes, the dialog gets confusing. But I definitely recommend this to everyone.

Well at least the Rams won yesterday......By a horrible call from the officials...But they won none the less. Thank You Bledsoe for having one of the worst games in your life.....Now my fantasy team is 2-5. Oh well it's fun right???

Watched some more Invasion last night. I'm still liking it, but it needs to start picking up soon. Its so painfully slow. I didn't mind it at fist because I was just thinking it was building suspense. But now its just getting to were I want to watch every other show so something will happen. But I'll hang on for another couple of episodes.

I also watched Rambo : First Blood. Its been years and years since I last seen this movie. And it's a lot better than I remember it. I guess that's all I remembered about it was the survival and killing stuff. Now I'm older I watch it and there is a lot of really good themes that just don't get addressed by today's movies. How did this one movie that wasn't really about a "action hero" get 4 movies made after this, and that's all they were was action movies?

Also watched the last 3/4 of Butterfly Effect. It wasn't that bad of a movie. Even Austin Kuthcher wasn't too bad. I'm sure this will be the last serious piece he will ever do....But it wasn't bad. I kinda liked it. It really wasn't all that creepy but the suspense was good. It didn't end how I thought it would....And I like that about movies.

Anyway the last thing I watched before I went to bed was Bram Stokers Dracula. This is just horrible....Ok I said it....Its horrible. Maybe it was Keanue Reeves....Maybe it was the constant moving of the shadows and the complete confusion on my part of what was going on. Now I've seen this movie before but I was young so I figured I would give it a chance. Nope still bad....I know people in the "horror circles" would stone me....But I couldn't even finish watching it. Doesn't help the I just got done reading "The Historian" not too long ago witch has a better tale of Dracula. Maybe I just need to go read the book...Maybe that's better?

So the Cards lost last night. I'm glad its over. I've dedicated way too much time to watching them play. It was fun, but I need to be doing something else with my time. It was a big let down though, reminded me of last years world series. Oh well its just a game right? Now I don't have to worry about watching any St. Louis sports. I mean I'll watch the Rams but I don't expect them to win....Neither the blues for that matter. So this morning I'm drowning my sorrows with some VERY strong coffee that I made hastily this morning and evidently added to much coffee grounds. Oh well its waking me up.

I need more news feeds...Anyone out here that can point me to some good ones along the same lines as what I have would be great.

Also I just ordered a TPB from http://www.lightspeedpress.com/ it's a series called "Finder", its a Sci-Fi story and Warren Ellis recommended it so I went and ordered the first Trade. Will review it when I get done reading it.

The Crapper Theory

There is no hiding the fact that I'm interested in the paranormal. I have links and RSS feeds all over this site related to it. I read comic books and novels that normally have a Sci-Fi or horror.....mainly paranormal twist. My favorite shows this year besides the NFL(Rams) and MLB(Cardinals) are all primarily paranormal in nature (supernatural and Invasion being the top two).
Last night while watching a Current Affair episode about a cult leader and his 12 wives started me thinking. The show was interviewing a lady that had been hurt emotionally and physically by this cult leader that promised everything but all he really gave was some sex every other Tuesday or something like that. That got me thinking "why would someone put themselves in that situation" or "How can they believe this crap". I can't tell you how many times I've read or heard of this exact senario, it doesn't have to be a Cult, people do this crap to themselves all the time. So I was already thinking....and that's not good. Me alone in the house thinking and watching shows of the paranormal nature.

Later that night after a friend of mine helped me close my pool and who I usually talk to about paranormal shows and such left. I started watching Supernatural. After watching that episode I watched another episode of the same show.....Broke up in between with an episode of My Name Is Earl. Witch by the way was one of the funnier episodes of late. OK back to subject, after my boy went to sleep I went to take a crap in peace. Now since I'm out of reading material I have to just sit there and think. So while I'm pushing out some deuce something hits me. Now before I go into my "Crapper Theory Of The Paranormal" I will say that I may or may not have read, watched, or heard something very similar to my theory, but because I can't remember shit, it felt like an epiphany. Ok now lets get started.
My personal theory on the paranormal (i.e. CTOTP), is that people want to believe in something. I mean it's a deep down NEED. Something, anything that is bigger than them. They just have to believe in something. It's the same in deeply religious people. The NEED it, and they will fight you about it. They will push it on you and expect you to think like them and only them. Sounds a lot like the deeply paranormal crowd. You could come up with Hard Evidence that there is no God and they will still believe what they want to believe. Its the same with the paranormal. Be it aliens, conspiracy, reptiles or bigfoot. No matter the evidence people will still believe it. Its almost like they have replaced religion or a belief in god with the belief in little green men. And it comes down to one thing. Faith. Faith is a strange thing. Because by its very definition it is un provable. It is just the opposite. Its a belief in something with out any evidence, for or against. Now, I'm not saying that those beliefs are bad. Actually I think they are a good thing. People that have faith in something, no matter how crazy it is, are typically happier. Because they have a feeling of knowing something without the burden of proof or the hassles of examining it to make sure its the right view. Now the nice thing about writing on the internet in a Blog that no one read is that I can make gross generalizations about people and things and get away with it. So that is my theory on the paranormal. I personally thing that 99% of all things can be explained by very natural things. For that other 1%, I think the answer is so far away from our intellect that it would seem paranormal but once we get to that spot in our evolution it will seem very natural. I know it doesn't explain crap but it gives me a better perspective on the Whack-O's. And I still love reading about it....Because what if you find that one thing that makes you have faith is something greater than you. What if you find that Ghost story that proves to you that there is life after death? Anyway I'm done with this.

Last reviews for the month.

RUNES OF RAGNAN #1- Ok I have to hand it to these guys for finally putting this out. The art is just amazing....Like everything Medors does. The writing is a bit....I don't know.....Dramatic? It was good and I would like to read more, but the narration style is kind of lengthy. But I think it is done in the style of Conan so it might just be that I'm not used to it. I still like it and I will keep reading it as long as it is published. And did I mention that the art is amazing?

BIGFOOT TPB- Ahhhhh Niles and Rob Zombie, how could this go wrong. I liked it, its reads like most 80's horror movies but the art from Corbin is great and the writing is classic horror/slasher goodness. I'm glad I waited for the trade because the front and back cover are amazing.

that's it for this month...Man I have to get some new books, but its getting close to Christmas so I don't want to be buying a whole lot of stuff for myself.

Tonight I bowl. And I'm pretty excited about it because last week I almost rolled a 600, and its easily been one of the best weeks I've had bowling.

This week in FF is pretty rough for me seeing as Philly has a bye, so that leaves me with Owens and L.J. Smith on the bench. I made a trade and picked up another #1 receiver so hopefully that will work out for me. The only problem I have is I'm playing the 2004 superbowl champ. If I win I can hit the .500 mark so that would be cool

Card's just got there asses handed to them by Roy Oswalt and the Stros' last night. Oh well I figured it was going to be a long hard fought series and Oswalt and Lidge were lights out last night. On to Saturday were we have to face the Rocket, I think we will do OK.

So the Rams have no head coach for most likely 6 weeks. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I hope Martz gets healthy. I may not like him as a coach but come on its just football and I hope the guy is OK. But we should get our asses handed to us in Indy playing the undefeated Colts. But ill be watchin, who knows we could get fired up and go off.

Another loss

So I lost again last night in my fantasy football league. And what makes me mad is that all my losses could have been wins if I would have started the right people. Oh well.... 2 and 3 aint toooo bad, and I'll bounce back this week!

So I truly believe people are trying to kill me. Someone attempted to kill me three times over the course of my ride into work. It didn't help that 370 was backed up past my exit and I had to turn around and hit 70. I was cut off twice and someone stopped short in front of me. Its been a while since I've had a ride into work like that. But I made it here on time....Just in time in fact to be overly board all day.

Anyway, Halloween is comming up and I wonder if we are going to have a party this year? I'm thinking about going fishing on Sunday since the Rams don't play till Monday night. Fishing should be pretty good this time of year.

Read most of what I got in the mail the other day so here goes.

GARTH ENNIS 303 #5 (Of 6)- This is OK, I just don't know how this is all going to wrap up in one more issue. I'll be honest I don't know what Garth is trying to say with this mini. But the are is OK to look at, even though a lot of the faces seem to look the same. I'll have a better idea if I like this mini after the last one is out. But as of now this is nothing special.

GOON #14- Return of Buzzard! YAY! To be honest this is not one of the better issues of the GOON. I like it because its the Goon and Eric Powell is writing it. But I have a feeling he is setting up something for the future issues. And I don't really like someone else (Kyle Holtz) illustrating a goon story. I like Powell's artwork so well I just want a issue chock full of it. But its good, I've just read better from the GOON!

DESOLATION JONES #3- This is by far pure Ellis at his best. I might even like this better than Transmetropolitan. Wait...I also think Fell was his best.....Oh well he is just firing on all cylinders with the work he is putting out. This story in particular is great, pornographic fun. I don't say that because there is a lot or Porn going on. I say that because most of the issue is a Porn actresses talking about the industry. The issue was slow, but I love his characters. Now on to the third greatest thing I read this week.

FELL #1- This would be Third greatest thing. The concept and the book are amazing. Now I'm not a huge Templesmith fan, but he gets the job done here with great ease. Love the main character and the stories should be fun. And it was only 1.99$, cant go wrong with that! Go and buy it....More of Ellis's goodness. Now on to the Greatest thing I read this week.

REVELATIONS #2 (Of 6)- This series just keeps getting better. Not only does it make me chuckle everything he curses at his cigarettes, it also has me sitting on the edge wanting to know what comes next. The art still seems out of place for a story like this but it doesn't take anything away from the story. It reminds me of Rex Mundi.....And that's a good thing. Go buy this and read it!

If everything keeps, I should be cruising to a .500 record in my Fantasy Football league....And I'm not finished yet. I guess they key to any fantasy team is to have a least one player from the Eagles! And I had 2 so I was good to go.

On to some other things. Steve Niles has officially started October madness over at his board (link is a little further down this page on the big flyer). So go on over and check it out and maybe win a prize or two.

Also I'm out of crap to read, I'm done reading Transmetropolitan up until the 24th issue. I don't have 25 and some others in the 60 issue run so I'm trying to complete those out before I read the rest.....Well "trying" might be a little strong because I'm not actively doing anything to obtain those issues.

I also finished "The Gun Slinger by Stephen King" and the review will follow with the most familiar format.

The Gun Slinger by Stephen King- I loved this book....And I have only read one other King book so I'm not just a Steven King whore. I need to go out and get the next 6 cause I'm that excited about it. The only problem I have with it was that it was a little adolescent in that there was always a sex reference or something to that nature. But he did address that in the introduction of the book, witch changed the way I looked at the book while I read it. He was very young when he wrote it so I can forgive it. But over all this looks to be a huge journey though one messed up, hormone induced Stephen King......Ill be there for that ride.

TV reviews

Ok I watched a lot of TV over the last week. Mostly because my wife has been busy so I have been home with my boy. And he won't let me get anything done because he is a kid and wants to play. And by the time he goes to bed its dark outside and I need to be quite, so I watch all the shows I have recorded. Anyway on to the reviews.

Ghost Hunters- Ok I know this is not a new show but I just started to watch it. Not sure how many more episodes I will watch because nothing has happened and the bald main character sees to be a douchebag. While I know its supposed to be a debunking paranormal group, it becomes very boring to watch people set up equipment, walk around a dark house and find nothing. Not that I really believe that there is something to find. But it really is getting boring. At least they heard something in this episode I watched that they couldn't explain. Oh well....What do you expect no one has proved the paranormal so I guess I cant expect a SCI-FI program to be ground breaking and prove the existence of ghost. Ill watch a few more before I pass judgment. But I'm afraid it wont get picked up for another season.

Supernatural- Watched the first two episodes of this and ill say that I like it. Its a little cheesy but the filming of it makes up for it. It also makes up for the actors mediocre performance. Its like a Buffy meets X Files. Has all the monsters from Buffy but all the cool filming and effects as the X Files. I will keep watching this until it just turns to awfull.

Invasion- I know this concept has been done a million times, but I ended up liking this episode. Enough mystery to keep me comming back. Not too sure about the lead actor because I hated his performance in that poker show on ESPN, but he seems to be a little more toned down in this one. And I love the guy who plays the cop, (Sorry way to lazy to go look up names right now). I think it will get even better as the show goes on.

My Name Is Earl- Ok I have a soft spot for anything Jason Lee, and that other dude who played Willim in Mall Rats. I thought this show was funny and so did my wife, witch is a pretty good test because she doesn't laugh at everything thrown at her. But it was good. I think the accents the character speak with could get a little annoying and its hard to hear Jason Lee edited, but I will keep watching it as long as its on TV......Not sure how long that will be.

As you can see I like the paranormal shows so if anyone has any suggestions drop me an email. And don't say Lost because I missed the first season so I refuse to watch the second.

I can't believe it...After tonight I think my bench scored more points that my starters. Oh well the Ram's won, that is the most important thing.

Had a good time at a bachelor party this weekend.....
anyway here goes the last reviews i have for the month.

Smoke #3- Great book, loved the ending. The cover is so impressive I just sat there and stared at it for a while. Only problem I have is the artist kinda drops a few frames here and there. But most of it was good. Then end was kinda confusing but after I re-read it once I got it. I'm guessing they set it up for another mini and the way that this series was reviewed i would think there would be another one soon. Overall great, the only regret I have is that I didn't just wait for the deluxe hard cover addition.

Alan Moore's Hypothetical Lizard #3- Still good, if not just a little strange. Things are starting to come together. I should have just waited for the trade because the issues are spaced fan enough apart that it takes me a while to remember what happened in the last issue. But I still like it and the art is strong. Not really sure where this story is going, but it will be fun to get there.

Dampyr: Under the Stone Bridge Vol 5- Don't care what anyone says, I love this series. They keep setting this up with deeper characters and better and better settings. Love the gritty Black and White style of art, and this time there were no vampires. Love this series and as long as they keep translating them to English I will keep buying them. I don't even notice some of the dumb lines anymore.

Elk's Run #3- The only thing I fear for this series is that it will start looking like "The Walking Dead". Don't get me wrong the walking dead is a great book.....But we don't need another. Anyway, I still like it. I'm a little fuzzy on who the main character is but I will buy the next couple of issues to check out the direction it goes. Still like the art.

Revelations #1- Now here is the gem of the month. I absolutely loved this book. A little Rex Mundi spliced with one of Warren Ellis's main characters mixed with some cartoon from the 80's. You wouldn't think I would have like it......But I really do think its one of the best books I've read in a while....So I i will be buying them until they start to suck.

That's it. I'll have to wait till next month for more comics. There is a list of crap I need to get at the comic store but I've got no time.

Anyway I'll try and post some more crap here soon. Meanwhile new ALP.

Shocking Loss

Another fantasy football shocking loss for the Stallions (that's my fantasy football team name). Lost by 5 points and Fanball fucked up the scoring so much that I had to manually enter them in today. Oh Well, no one goes Undefeated . I will rise up and overcome.

Ok now some reviews.

Savage Membrane by Steve Niles- Cal McDonald at his best....Drunk and strug out with about 5 million wounds and aided by a couple of ghouls and a police detective. This story was as good as the rest of them that I have read. Witch is to say I loved it and everyone should be buying everything from Mr. Niles. That is all.....And its signed by him.......So that really doesn't mean much does it?

Eric Red's Containment- You CANNOT go wrong with anything written by the guy who wrote "The Hitcher". I mean that movie freaked me out when I was young. But anyway this is a zombie story set in space. Great art by Nick Stakal rounds this little story out. I think it could have used maybe a couple of more issues, but I liked it and it has the type of ending that pisses me off....But in a good way. Go buy it. Only downfall is that no one picks up a finger out of a fry basket by mistake......

Its Been a while

So its been a while since my last post but I've been busy fishing and stuff. Yea went out to the super secret fishing spot and caught about 40 12-14 inch bass....Its been fun. Now I just have to convince my wife to let me go again! But since summer is winding down I got a crapload of stuff to do around the house.

I'm not going to talk about gas prices......Because there is not much I can do about them.

It's been a while since I have posted anything mainly because I haven't been reading a whole lot. I finally finished the Dark Horse Book Of Hauntings and I started reading Steve Niles Savage Membrane. I got that book a long with a copy of Super Natural Freak Machine #1 by way of winning a contest at the Steve Niles boards. http://www.steveniles.com Great people on those boards and they run contests all the time. And as a bonus both the comic and the novel are signed by Steve, so I was stoked. Anyway Ill review the afore mentioned book once I get done reading it.....And it shouldn't take long its only 200 pages and its Cal Mcdondald.

Dark Horse Book Of Hauntings- This turned out to be a little bit of a let down, mostly because most of the page space was taken up by a interview with some psyhic medium wacko. But it did have one of the best stories I have read in a long time. The story was about some guy getting a tattoo and not paying for it, then receiving a curse. Anyway it was some of the best reading I have done in a long time. The Hellboy story was weird and unclear....Like most of them.
Maybe if I get some extra cash I will order the next one....But right now its not high on the list.

Smoke #2- Still lovin this book, I can see this being turned into a movie. Anyway this is receiving much praise and its well worth it. I cant find any faults with it. So go buy it ... Its good.

Little Book of Horror: Frankenstein- This was just all right. Little being the key word here, took me like 2 min to read. Not really sure its worth the price. I think my boy might like these when he gets older. Ill give the next one a chance, if I don't like that ill stop buying these.

This is an online comic set in the Lovecraft Mythos. The art is incredible and the writing is top notch. Makes me want to read more of it and buy the printed copy.

Well it's been a while since I posted something on here so I guess I should.

First thing I will do is review the last book I read so here goes.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova- This is a book written in what I assume would be the Da Vinci Code style. It's a Indiana Jones meets stuffy school professors. I liked it, but then again I like everything that has archeologist, anthropology and old books and libraries wrapped up in Dracula. I'm going to assume that most of the history is correct in this book, but honesty I don't have the time to check and make sure it is, so I probably wont quote it. This book made me read faster and faster towards the end. The end was a little week, and set it up for another book. Although I cant even think of what couldn't be said about the subject in the 600+ pages I just read. I really liked Kostova's writing style so I will continue to pick up her books. But all and all it has more of a realistic fell to it, if you can put a realistic view on dracula. I do recommend it to all Dracula fans.

Now I need to go shopping for a new book.

I'm reading now the Dark Horse Book Of Hauntings and its going really slow, so it might be a bit before I review it.

I'm Back

Back from the camping trip and I can say that I have never been this tired and sore from vacation.

It was a hella good time. There were plenty of beer drank (550 cans worth for 4 days with 9 people) maybe that is why I'm tired. I'm sore from the float, even though no one fell out. Did some fishing and caught some trout.....I've never caught trout before so that was fun, even the little ones fight hard.

I'm sure there will be more stories about this trip as soon as the haze clears in my head.

Small Gods Special #1- Still sucks, still not going to buy anymore of this series,. The only reason I had this was cause I pre ordered and pre paid for it. So this will be my official last issue of this. Although the art is very incredible....So it has that going for it.

Walking Dead #20- This series is still good. It kinda slowed down a notch, but I'm liking all the tension between the characters. So I'm intrigued and will continue reading. This is a secures that I always keep thinking I shouldn't like it, but I do.......That scares me.

The review for Walking dead was so short because everyone loves it and I don't have that much to add to it.

I read some more crap over the last few days. Here goes.

Billy the Kids Old Tyme Oddities #4- This was the last issue in the mini and it didn't disappoint. I really liked the series as a whole. It was fun to read and it ended open so there might be more, although I like Holtz art I would still rather see Powell do it. But still all around good comic making.

Desolation Jones #2- More Ellis greatness. I'm diggin this comic, but since I like most stuff he does its not that surprising . The art is good and the story is moving along nicely. Art is going good, with some flashes of greatness. I like the way ellis writes his characters, and his one liners.

Elk's Run #2- This is just getting better, although I think I would rather read this in the TPB form. But if memory serves me that is what this was written for.......TPB. Anyway I love this "Town with a secret" story line. I'm kind of a sucker for that sort of thing, its moving along and ill continue to buy it.

Hellboy: The Island #2- More confusingness from Mignola, I still like it. And its nice to know Hellboy's roots. But again I think he was trippin balls when he wrote this. I'm not sure how much more Hellboy ill be getting in the future though.

Ok I tried to do this once and the power went out....so here we go again.

Just a couple of reviews, I've been reading stuff pretty quickly so I should be done with my comics soon. But that novel "The Historian" is pretty long so that might be a while.

NEWSFLASH

NONI juice while able to cure everything from cancer to the Clap, also apparently works on dogs and cats. All this from my douche bag of a co worker that sits right next to me and preaches in a nasal stuttering voice about the benefits of drinking NONI juice that is 40$ a bottle. So if you have ANY medical problems just get yourself a 40$ bottle of NONI juice and it will all go away. The only thing I know for sure it doesn't cure is being a monumental douche. Well at least it hasn't cured him yet. Ok enough of the bitching and onto the reviews.

Ocean #6- Typical Warren title down to the one liners that seem to come straight from his Badsignal mailing list. But I like his dialog and his one liners so that's ok. The art was solid, but I had some troubles towards the end trying to figure out what exactly happened. I had to go back and re-read some parts to figure it out. I liked the ending witch is rare for me. It tied in a lot of the elements set up in the earlier issues. As a whole I really enjoyed this series and recommend it.

The Goon #13- I cant say this enough, if you are into comics you need to be reading this title. This is the first book I read when I get my comics because its usually the best. Powell's art is incredible and consistent. Sometimes I wish he wouldn't do anything mainstream because he's like "my little secret". I know the Goon is not a secret but it feels that way because I have been there from day one. Its like that great local band you hope never gets big because you have listened to the since they started making music and it feels very personal. This comic is always makes me laugh out loud. I will stare at the art much longer than any other book I have bought. And also you cant go wrong with a "Shawshank redemption" reference. So if your not buying this you should.

Three Nights In August- I know this is not a comic book, but its something I read so I will review it. This is a book about the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team manager Tony LaRussa. This book is not your typical biography, in fact its not a biography at all. It's more about what goes through a managers mind before, during and after a three game series. This particular three game series was with the Chicago Cubs, or nemesis. I loved this book. Not only because I have followed LaRussa since he was with the Oakland A's, but because he is an amazingly dedicated person. If you do not like baseball there is nothing in this book for you. This book walks you though pregame preparations and in game decisions that a manager has to make. It also has little anecdotes about the player that were on the team at that time. The only problem that I had about this book was the end seemed rushed. And its still a book about a sport so its a little tedious and slow in parts. But I still loved it and recommend it to anyone that is remotely interested in why a Hit and Run was put on in a certain situation during a baseball game.

One more review before I get my next load of comics today.

Little Book Of Horror: War of the Worlds- Another in the series by Steve Niles. I liked it. I little juvenile, but I think that it would be a great introduction to a classic for a kid. Nothing really special but it was short and got the point across. The art was well done, with painted panels and prose excerpts instead of the normal panel and word balloons. I liked it enough to keep buying the series.

Final reviews for July....Even though its August

Hell House Vol 4- The final vol in series and its good just like the rest of them. I never read the novel, only seen the movie, so there is a couple things I have problems with. Both the movie and the comic really doesn't get across how important the "roaring giant" was to Belasco's legend. Now I'm assuming that the book portrays this better. But all and all it reads just like the movie, and I liked the movie. The art was again well done, and the dialog was great. That's about all I can say about this series.

Saga of the Swamp Thing Vol 1- Great, just great. I loved this and I will probably be buying more of the trades. Now I can see why this is considered a classic. There was just enough horror to make it interesting but still being a super hero book. The only bitch I had about the whole thing was the Jason Blood character, didn't think he was necessary. But Morre was probably setting it up for later books.

Clive Barker's The Thief Of Always Vol 3- Again I loved the series. Its just good kid scaring fun. Its not perfect, but I really loved the art. I just wish I would have waited on this because the hardcover all in one edition is comming out. It really was hard to believe this was by Clive Barker....All the way until the end. Then there were some darker moments. But I still loved every Vol.

OK will be getting more comics tomorrow and I bought "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova, so I will need to read and review that.

Things I don't get about comics

I was just reading on Newarama this morning about Kevin Smith finally finishing the scripts for his series "Spidy/Black Cat" from way back in 2002. And if you start reading the posts of peoples reaction to this news they are genuinely upset and angry at him for being so late. I don't think I have ever been upset that a comic, book, movie ect didn't come out on time. Maybe I just have other things to do.....But it really doesnt bother me to see these things delayed. Also like the Ellis run on Iron Man, again I assume it will come out sooner than later. And if it doesn't, I'll pick up another book to read. I think this might be why I don't go to comic book stores too often, I really don't care to talk about what a particular creator is doing. Or what is going to happen in the next book. I just read them when the come to me in the mail. Maybe I'm just not a "fanboy" and that's alright, I like it that way.

On another comics note I wanted to go to HeroCon next year but alas I cant. I'm going on the family fishing trip to Canada. I would ask if anyone wants to get some books signed for me, but I think I would rather just meet the creators in person.

Also Swamp Thing is getting good. I swear Alan Moore was just on a long head trip while sleeping with the trees in a national Forrest. But I'm liking it so I will prolly buy the rest of the trades.

Camping trip

The camping trip is right around the corner and everything is falling into place. Canoes are reserved, beer is ordered, all there is left is to go shopping and do a little cooking. I'm very excited. If I haven't explained this camping trip before let me do that now. This is a 3 day drinking hard were 10 of my closest friends grab 2 kegs and go camping on the bank of a river in the middle of no where. We have to 4wheel into the camping spot, set up.....And drink. Last year we floated both kegs, I hope to do the same this year. I'm almost giddy. Oh yea we float the river one day in canoes. I'm sure there will be pictures this year.....Well maybe that wont be such a good idea.
Just have to pray for no rain! Its less than 2 weeks away and nothing can get me down.

Yesterday

Wow the first 10 hour day back from vacation is a killer. And of course my boy woke up at 12am and 2am this morning for no apparent reason. He normally sleeps through the night so that was kind of strange. I'm dead tried this morning and working on my second cup of coffee.

I started reading "Saga of the Swamp Thing Vol 1 by Alan Moore" last night and I just got through the foreword by Alan Moore before I had to stop reading. If the rest of this run is as good as reading the forward, I think I'll like it. Now, I have already read #1 and I loved that so I guess if all goes well I will be buying more trades in the future.

Back from vacation

Now that is what I call a vacation. I just lounged all day drinking beer and watching my son play in the pool. Went on a pretty good boat ride and I caught a few fish. The only downside was that it was 115 degrees outside, so yea it was fucking hot. But it didn't rain, so I got that going for me. Nothing really out of the ordinary happened. I didn't encounter any stupid people. We drove back up here Tuesday because I had to coach a baseball team in the second round of the playoffs, witch the kids won in the 8th. We drove back down that night and had a couple of beers and passed out. Then we came back on Saturday and the kids won the championship game. They really played well all year and not one of them bitched once.

Come to think of it I did see something weird down at the lake. A dude in the cabin above the pool lost a bet and had to dress up in a cheerleader outfit and do a cheer. Consequently we got drunk with that guy till 4am....Then I was in trouble, but we wont talk about that.

Milkmen Murders #4- I liked the series, I though the ending was a little week. But all and all still great and I recommend it to anyone who likes disturbing stuff.

I didn't get to read anything else this week cause I forgot it all.

Milkman Murders #3- Again just great. This is what real horror is supposed to be. A mom getting sick of her abusive family then murdering them. The shot where she skins her daughter is priceless. So this series is still good.

EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- A 51-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for using his cell phone to take pictures up women's skirts at a Wal-Mart store.Police said a store security camera caught Darrol Jones Jr. of Syracuse taking the pictures of a 19-year-old woman. Once in custody, police discovered Jones had photographs of several women stored on his phone.Jones was charged with unlawful surveillance and was being held in jail on $10,000 bail.

I'm really supirsed I haven't heard anything like this until now. The really sad part of this is that I can bet you money those cops showed those pictures around a bit before they were submitted to evidence.

I have long ago lost my faith in humanity and this is just confirms my belief.

Hold Music

I believe all hold music should be banned. I'm on hold for 30 minutes having to listen to Debbie Gibson, how is that customer service? Turn off the hold music and let me listen to some American Hi- Fi in peace. There is nothing worse than hearing some 80's pop song while something good is playing on my MP3 player. I know I could just hit pause, but that's not the point. I get some sort of stereo crappiness going on. "Walk like an Egyptian" in one ear and Audioslave in the next......It's just not right. I will know when the service person comes back on the phone..........Because they will start talking. No more hold music.....EVER!

I should be pretty busy on this today becasue its shapping up to be a very borning day, and I'm here for 10 hours.

Milkman Murders #1,2- This series so far is great. I believe that this is the only kind of real horror that can be done in the comic book form. Disturbing themes and disturbing images (see the big BOO! Doesn't work well in comics) is the way to go to build a good horror comic and Joe Casy and company have pulled it off so far. It was pretty nice that I got to order this "set" though previews, so I got all four for I think 5 bucks. Great comic so far.

Walking Dead #19- This issue has restored my faith in this book. Less whining and more killing. Plus I like the emotional turmoil at the end. Also like the idea of the new character introduced, and how there was not much time spent on her so we can slowly learn what she is all about. Overall great writing and great art as always, and pleas please please keep this in black and white. I don't think would be so good in color. So it appears I just might start getting this monthy again.

Ultimate fantastic Four #19- This is the first part of a 2 part fill in arc and ill have to say I have mixed feelings for it. First the art is horrible, not just bad, horrible. Every review I have read of this so far raves about the art. It just plain sucks. Now at first I wasn't diggin the story but about 1/2 way through it I really started to like it. So I will pick up the next issue just to get the rest of the story, and I will prolly end up getting the first of Millers run to see how that goes before I start ordering this again.

Small Gods #9- I've stopped ordering this. He used his "powers" once to dodge a bullet. The end of this was basically the main character telling the bad guy "I promise I wont say anything about your wrong doings if you leave me alone". This is what you always scream at the movie screen when this happens in the movies. But it just doesn't work well. You have 3 issues of getting chased and shot at, then at the end they decide that it will be ok if they just didn't say anything. It was dumb, this series had so much potential but seems like its been rushed. Oh by the way the artist on this rocks, he has a couple of perspective issues but his action sequences are the bomb.

I'm sure ill have the rest of my comics read by the end of next week because I'm going on vacation.

this vacation should be fun as opposed to the last one. All I have to do is drink, fish and take care of my kid. Who by the way will not stop and sit down for one second. He is always moving, its insane. But he is fun so it all balances out in the end.

And if any of you out there can listen to 97.1 on Tuesdays at 4pm. DO IT DO IT. Paranormal Tuesdays on the Dave Glover show. Yesterday was the hardest I have ever laughed at a radio show in a long time.

Side note: I saw a dude eat it in Casa parking lot yesterday. And when I say eat it I mean it, he went ass over elbows. He was a younger guy so I didn't feel so bad for laughing at him. And he was with a bunch of his friends so I'm sure he got made fun of pretty good. So it was all around a funny day. Man I'm a dick.

Dampyr Sand Specters Vol #3- Almost lost faith in this book, but this Vol brought it back. I liked this one the most out of all of them. How can you go wrong with a haunted theme park? This Vol will make me buy the next couple. I guess that's the best praise I can give it, I'm going to buy more of them.

Smoke #1- Yes kiddies this is as good as they say it is. I had my doubts about ordering it, but not anymore. I love these kind of British stories. It really is a cross between Transmetropolitan and Alan moore. It has a huge Ellis feel without being a rip off. I loved it and I cant wait for the next 2 issues to finish the story. Go out and buy this.

On another note I down loaded the Talking Heads greatest hits. WTF was wrong with those people. None of it made sense. I know I know it was the 80's and most Rock/POP didn't make sense. But most if it didn't even sound good. This is how desperate I am for new music, I'm DL'in old 80's pop bands just to hear the song "Burning down the house", witch I only want to hear because it reminds me of Revenge of the Nerds. One of the greatest movies a 14 year old can see.

Billy The Kids Old Tyme Oddities #3- Anything Eric Powell writes I'm going to like. I have faced that fact and I'm moving on. This book is funny and the art is great. The only thing that could make this better would be if Mr. Powell illustrated it himself, but Kyle does a great job. Everyone should be reading this.

Hellboy: The Island #1- I have a love hate relationship with Mike Mignola. First the art in this book was a little muddy in spots, to the point were I couldn't clearly see what was going on. And the writing at first was confusing. But by the end of it I really just wanted to read more. I started to understand more of what was going on the further I read, and I like that. This might be partially my fault that I haven't read a Hellboy book in a while so I didn't know much of the back story. But ill be buying the 2nd issue so I guess that means I like it.

Started reading SMOKE #1 loving it so far, full review after I'm done.

Batman

Went and saw Batman with my wife last night. I'd have to say I loved it. I was expecting it to be a little korny, but it really came though as a great movie. There were parts that could only be described as "Horror". The casting was great except for Katie Holmes, but really you could of put any pretty girl in that role and it wouldn't have mattered. I just think she is a retard, but that's more for other reasons not her acting. Alfred provided just enough comic relief to make the movie lighthearted in some parts. I didn't check the credits but does the writer director thank Frank Miller? Because he needs to. I just recently finished reading the "Dark Knight Returns" and I see a lot of common factors in the movie and the book. The scarecrow was incredible, he was truly scary.

And even my wife liked it!
So everyone go see the movie.....Yea both of you who read this, go see it!

Two more I picked up at the Geek Shop today.

Strange #6- I'm very happy with the way this series ended. I'm pretty sure this story has been told before, but I have never read it. I have been fascinated with the Dr. Strange character since the 1602 mini that came out last year? So all I can say is that if they make this an ongoing monthly title I will be there throwing my money at it.

Man With The Screaming Brain #2- More goodness from the mind of Bruce Campbell. I like it. It's funny and very korny, but it gets the job done and entertains. I really can't wait to see what kind of B movie this is going to make! Although I don't think anything can compare to Buba Ho Tep.

I picked up a long box and the new title that has a Alan Moore script.....I forget the name of it and I'm too lazy right now to look it up.

Here is some advice for all Comic Shop Owners. When you are open for business don't put something in front of the door to make it impossible for someone to get inside.

Also, don't dork out once someone does get into the store. All I herd on Saturday was the two dorks obsessing over how useless one comic was over the next. Most casual readers and people like myself don't like the geeks.

Oh well, I guess that's why I order most of my stuff online, to stay away from the dorks.

Also working on getting a Stephen Perkins Art book signed and a Chuck BB page of original art from Secret Skull. I'm kids excited about that. Mostly because I believe once I get the rest of my comics in that long box, they will be moved to the basement and then I can hang up original art pages down there.

Just read this on someone else's Blog. How much does this sound like an 80's movie. This is great, I need a job were it is common practice to have people hunted and killed. Plus i belive bounty hunter get to use cool gear like night vision.

I may have to look into this profession.

I should be more excited that its Friday, but I have to work tomorrow so it's more like Thursday for me. My best friend came into town last night and is here the whole Holiday, so I got that going for me. And here is my problem, he wants me to go out with him tonight and drink. Now normally I have no problem with that, but I have to work tomorrow and I have to get the house ready for the party on Sunday. And I don't think my wife will be too happy with me leaving her alone with my boy, all the while trying to clean the house.

Ahhhhh decisions decisions.

Music scene

You know I remember a time when the music scene would turn over every 10 years, every decade had its own kind of soundtrack. Now it seems that music is turning over every few years. And by that I mean that the new "In" sound changes. Of course it very hard now to classify music. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. It just seems as if everyone and every band is just chasing the "Next big thing". Here's a great example. Rage Against The Machine came out in 1994 (I think that is when I started listening to them) and melted everyone's faces (Sorry I just watched School of Rock again and that line always makes me chuckle). Then About two years after that there was this big boom for Rap/Rock. Now I would like to say that it was because Rage was influencing these new bands to adopt that style of music but anyone who actually listens to decent music would have to agree that their sound could not be recreated or copied with any positive results. The end product of these bands are always the same, they seem to be trying to hard. And if I hear one more song about peoples parents treating them bad I'm going to be sick. Now we have bands like Lincon Park who feel the need to have a rapper and a turn table, and a bad rapper at that. You have to wonder if they really wanted to do that type of music, or if they just though they needed the turntable and the rapper to sell records?

Are Lincon Park cool still? I cant keep track. I try to listen to new music, it just doesn't have much substance for me. Maybe cause the only place I can hear new music is The Point and I'm sure that is selective to what will keep kids listening to the music.

You know what made me feel old, my nephew was singing a song to himself. As I listened closer I realized he was singing the new Green Day track, oblivious to its meaning. Witch is ok cause he's young, he hasn't been beaten down by life enough to realize what Billy Joe is saying. But I still asked him about it and he said Green Day is all the rage now.......It's scary, I like the same music as my nephew. Oh well. Again just random thoughts, I'm not sure any of this made any sense but I have always made a promise to be "Point Free" when I talk, so its really just more of the same.

What all this really comes down to is most new music sucks and I wish o could find a new band to listen to.

Been looking around for the last hour or two and I cannot find one blog out there that interests me. Witch makes me think that I need to start updating this more with what I'm thinking. Because most of what I just read over the last hour was douchebags talking about nothing, I guess they rant because no one else will listen to them. Or they just plain don't know anyone to talk to. Of course the same can be said about most Blogs, including this one.

If anyone out there has a decent blog to read email me.

Of course I think only 3 people read this so the chance that someone will email me is slim.

Ascend OGN- This was horrible, the worse story/story telling I have ever read. The art was so so, and at most times I could not differentiate between the characters. I was lost on this the minute I started to read it. Witch is kind of sad because I was really looking forward to it, but it ended up sucking. I had to re-read multiple parts just to get an idea of what was happening. The art I think would have been great for covers, not interiors. And most comics without word balloons bother me, especially when you cant figure out from the art who is talking. Oh well, it was a disappointment. Now don't get me wrong, the idea (from what I can grasp of it) would have been great for more of a monthly 2 year run. I think the idea behind it was just too complex to be stuffed into a OGN. I felt like all the characters were in the same house and just running into each other every 5 minutes when they needed to fight.

That's all the stuff I have to read this month. Should get a bunch of stuff beginning of next month.

Now I'm reading the Bass Pro catalogs in the crapper. They have everything you never knew you wanted!

I know most of the people that read this don't like this part, but it pacifies me when I'm bord.

Rex Mundi TPB vol 2 The River Underground- I can't get enough of this, i love this title. It is very intelligent and well thought out. I feel as though I'm reading a more in depth "Indiana Jones". I'm guessing people would compare this to "DaVinci's Code", but since i haven't ever read that book i cannot comment on that. But its a great read, and i think there is 3 more issues after this TPB, but i think i will wait for the next trade because there is so much that happens and so many terms and characters i think it would be hard to follow it monthly.

Man With The Screaming Brain- This title is a Comic based off a screen play written by Bruce Campbell. Now you can see why i just had to try it out. Its a Noir story full of wacky fun, and the art is just as wacky. Its funny and fun and i think i will probably pick up the next 2 issues and I'm sure ill watch the movie if and when it comes out. Because you gotta like all things Bruce Campbell, anyone who coins the phrase "This is my boomstick" is alright with me!

The Walking Dead #17 and #18- Typically good Walking Dead stuff here, but its getting way too much like a soap opera and if it doesn't change soon I'm going to have to drop the title. I mean the written is great and the art is great, but i deal with enough little whinny bitches I'm my life, i don't want to read about them. I need more zombies eating each other. But I'll have to say by the looks of the new cover i think its about to get more interesting. Ill keep this one on the list for a while.

The Goon #12- It's The Goon, how can it be bad? Now I will have to say this wasn't one of my favorite issues, but its still Eric Powells wacky funness (not sure that is a word), so yea it was good. I believe it will always be good forever. Can you tell I'm a Goon fan, it's one of the two comics that got me back into reading comics. The other, Route 666, is no longer being published. Not much more to say about it besides there is no reason that everyone should not be buying this.

Billy The Kids Old Tyme Oddities #2- Again more good stuff from Eric Powell, although I wish he would illustrate this, Kyle Holtz does a great job. More fun comics from these two. I like the fact that the creators aren't trying to push the envelope or have a hidden meaning. Its just plain fun. Go buy it and enjoy it!

30 Days Of Night Bloodsucker Tales #8- Now i like Steve Niles, but this was one of my least favorite series from him. I will continue to buy it because of Matt Fractions Lex Nova, but the Niles story just isn't that strong for me. I have to say I'm beginning to hate Ben Templesmith interior work. I love his covers, but i get lost in his interior's. Oh well Lex Nova is funny as hell, will continue for that.

Dampyr Vol 2 Night Tribe- This book is still good, still having problems with some of the dailog. But hey its old and its a translation. I think it will get better with some of the later issues. Its a good old Blade meets Van Helsing story. I will keep reading this as long as the put it out in English, witch i fear will not be long. I think this thing has more than 60 volumes!

I just got back from the family vacation in branson and let me tell you, there must have been a moron convention in town. The whole town only has a population of about 6000 people, and I'm sure they aren't morons....but along with those 6000 people are at least 5,000,000 tourist douche baggin it up all over the roads and attractions. Lets start with the strip, this is 50 miles of pure country shit. Every kind of stand, show, restaurant and t shirt shop you can think of. Yea 50 miles of crap blinking at me and wanting me to spend an exuberant amount of money on something that is only worth, at maximum ,1/2 of what you paid for it. And that's not the worse part of the strip, the bad part is the fucking morons driving down the strip with there head bobbing right and left looking for there favorite go kart place, or that perfect t shirt that uncle assface would "just love". Notice at no point did I say that people are looking forward.....because they aren't! Most peoples natural reaction to turning right or left is to put on the brakes. So not only was I subjected to miles and miles of country crap, I had to see and experience it at a painfully slow pace. I saw red at least a dozen times, the red hot rage was built up in me so much that I was 2 minutes and one more sudden stop from pulling over and beating the nearest driver with a put-put golf club. Seriously retarded. Do people know they are being fuck bags at places like that?

On to more fun. Silver Dollor City, now this place was decent, except the people at the door that want you to buy a picture of yourself after I spent a massive amount of money on addmition to a theme park that I was damn sure I want going to have any fun at. I say the place was decent cause the moron level was actually pretty low, no one bothered me. And the fun part was watching my 12 month old playing at the water pack thing (witch by the way I could have simulated the whole "water park" Experience with a hose and knife), but it was fun to watch him.

Ok on to my accommodations. I stayed with my mother, step father, brother, sister in law and there 3 kids. All in one "condo" thing. So to say the least I wanted to kill someone, and it was only a 3 day trip.

I got to fish one of the days, well part of the day. We caught some bluegill, fishing just insn't as fun sober. I had to fish with my brothers boy who is just a plain whinny little bitch, but after I put him on some fish he calmed down and quit being a little bitch.

And lastly I was given no choice and paid for a couple of tickets to the "showboat". Now those that know me would be laughing right now. I don't do shows.... I don't do song and dance. At least the douchebags were limited to what was on stage....I mean talking dogs, how unfunny is that? All the people were ok on the boat.....but you see my son has just discovered walking, and the last place in the world a kid that has just discovered walking needs to be is on a boat watching a 2 hour show full of douchebags. So needless to say I didn't see too much of the show, witch I didn't mind. After the show my family got lost...We didn't thanks to my wife who is a human GPS machine. And to top it off my mother askes me before we leave "are you mad at me". So all and all this was the worst vacation that I have ever been apart of......

Event Horizon Vol 1- I was really looking forward to reading this book because of the hype that was surrounding it. Ill have to say that the art was incredible. Now the writing was not too bad, but the art is what is really on display here. Most of the stories just didn't jump out at me, except one. "The Cure" is one of the best shorts I've read in a long time. Steve Nile's story wasn't bad. But the Jed Lightsear story was a chore to read, at the end I started getting into it, but at first it was hard to follow. This book is great to look at and not too bad to read, I would recommend it.

Deep Sleeper TPB- Now I will have to he honest and say that the only reason I bought this was because of Phil Hester and Huddleston's and their excellent job he did on "The Coffin". I'm glad I did, this was hands down the best story I have read all year, and maybe last year. The kind of horror that he wrote was incredible, it was more of a situational scare than a "big monster chainsaw kinda guy" scary. So in short this was great and everyone should go buy it, read it and enjoy it.

The Doors

So I'm listening to The Doors (the album "The Doors") and it occurred to me that they might be the only band that can pull off using and electric organ so much. I can't think of one other band that uses an organ, much less makes it sound cool. Maybe a lot of bands used an organ back in 1967 and The Doors where the only one to make it big out of all of them.

On more Doors related news, I heard on KSHE (I think it was yesterday) that the remaining members of the doors approached Perry Ferrel for a new Doors album. Talk about weird.....but if you think about it Ferrel's style would fit well.

Question Of The Day

Being bord and out of things to talk about here I went on over to http://thedailymeme.com/ and looked around for a topic of some sort. Well it turns out most of it sucks, so I grabbed a question that seemed to suck less than the other's, so here goes.

Which would you choose, to spend the night in a cemetery, or in a haunted house?

My answer seems to all to be obvious, but for other reasons that you would think. See a cemetery, I would imagine, would be hella uncomfortable to sleep in. On top of that it would be boring. You can go "explore" a cemetery, you pretty much know what is out there. Its a bunch of headstones and mausoleums. Now I guess you could break into a mausoleum, but that seems to be too much work for not much payoff. I guess you could sleep in one of those empty spaces in the mausoleums, but that seems to claustrophobic. Maybe I should ask my buddy what that's like, he did it during Mardi Gras cause he was too stupid to book a room but that's another story.
So I guess what I'm saying is that I would rather walk around a haunted house for a night than a cemetery. I think the house would be fun, actually I always wanted to do just that. But my friends are too large of {} to do it with me. I guess I could just do it by myself, but what kind of fun would that be? Plus haunted houses always come with a creepy tour guide, like in Scooby Doo! Maybe I could solve a mystery.... naw I would prolly just drink a lot of beer and wonder why the lights keep flickering and tell who ever it is in the attic to stop rattling those chains I'm trying to sleep.

Ok that's enough suck for right now.....Maybe ill find something worthwhile later today.

Desolation Jones #1- This is another Ellis title and it looks to be a good one. Per Ellis this is supposed to be a long run title like Transmetropolition was, so that makes me happy. My only bitch about this, and other Ellis created characters is, they all seem to be the same. Now we have had only one issue, so I'm guessing the characters will be flushed out more in subsequent issues. But you know what they say "do what you can do well". Over all I liked this issue and I will be adding this to my list of monthlies I get, witch by the way is dwindling.

The Gift #11- Ok, someone tries to kill the ancient one because the ancient one gave him the power to exact revenge on his cheating wife and ends up in prison. The reason that I don't like this is......he didn't need the ancient ones gift to murder the dude that was popin his wife, it just didn't make sense. The guy that got the gift was in the army and you would think he was capable of doing the deed without the "frost" power that the ancient one had given him. Well the dude failed to kill the ancient one....imagine that. This issue was just plain horrible. I've been worried for some time about this title and how long these little stories could be sustained. We have learned next to nothing about the main character (The ancient one), and the people he gives his "Gift" to we know even less about. I stopped getting the monthly on this one. I will pick up the next trade if it makes it that far only because the author (Raven Gregory) said all these stories are supposed to start fitting together. I figured it would start happening by now.....but it hasn't yet.

Jenny Finn- I'm so lost on this. I guess it supposed to be some sort of Lovecraftian story, but the art is horrible and the writting is weak and very unclear. I will still get the next and last issue of this, but only becasue it is already preordered and prepaid for. The biggest problem i have with this title is that the writing and the dialog are so unclear, coupled with the wierd art, I had a lot of troble following the story. I really expected more from a Mignola title. Oh well, maybe the next one will be better.

Small Gods #8- Ok I'm done buying the monthlies on this. I like the ideas, and the art, I just think it will read better as a TPB. Also, and I could be mistaken, I don't think the main character used his "powers" at all in this issue. I didn't really mind it, I just thought it was strange. Now the way the artist draws the "emp" powers....I might have missed it. And it seems that every good looking girl wants to jump the main character. But again no more monthlies of this only trades. And the person that does the grey tones in this is simply amazing.

Supreme Power #16- This issue was weird, they are trying to set up a new story arc, and that's good. But the type of story "make everyone dislike you so you can come back and work for the military and like it" has been done before. I have to just hope that they will be putting a spin on this in the later issues. I say hope because this has been one of my favorite titles in a long time. So I will stick around for a couple of more issues.

Strange #5- I hear a lot of people don't like this book. I love it, one of my "first reads". This issue is great because its sets up Strange to take over for the Ancient one. My only problem is I guess I forgot to pre order the last issue, so I'm going to have to go to the shop to get it. But this is an excellent series. I have been interested in someone doing a great Dr.Strange story ever since I read 1602, and this fits the bill. So for all of you who read this go out and buy it.

Ok just got done reading a few of my comics so I thought I would review them for the 0 people that actually read this.

Bill The Kid's Old Tyme oddities #1- I liked this. It's good ole Eric Powell from "The Goon" writing it, so its funny and fast paced. I liked Kyle Holtz art on "The Hood", and this is pretty much the same style. Powell colors this and you can tell because it looks a lot like the colors used for "The Goon". All in all it was a good just plain fun comic a la "The Goon".

The atheist #1- Phil Hester is on the writing chores on this, and I liked "Coffin" so I figured I give this a shot. I liked it, I think it will be a good ongoing series if it makes it that far. I was surprised that this was in black and white, and I think the art would have stood out more had it been in color. Speaking of the art it was a little shaky, it wasn't bad but it could have been much better. Especially for a book that was just people talking. No big monsters, no big car chases. But over all I like the story so I will continue to buy it. But I fear that this is going to be canceled sooner rather than later.

Ultimate Fantastic 4 #17, #18- What can I say, I'm a big fan of Warren Ellis and I have never followed the Fantastic Four so for me this was great. In fact I loved his whole run on this. And Kuberts art is great, the coloring was also fantastic.....pun intended. I will give Miler's run on this a chance....but I really liked this arc with Ellis.

Iron Man #3- Again another Ellis title. I like it but the writing for some reason I cant put my finger on it, doesn't sound like Ellis' normal stuff. Witch can be good, we will have to wait and see. The art is beautifully, but something again is wrong with it. It seems too static. Like photographs or something. I cant put my finger on what is wrong with it. Don't get me wrong its almost as if you are watching a movie as far as lifelike goes. But overall the title is good so far, but this issue is really were the story picks up so hopefully Ellis has something good in store for us.

Thats all for now. I haven't decided on what to red next. Probably the event horizon or the couple of Walking Dead Issues I have sittign around.

Dampyr vol 1

Just got done reading this and I have to say I like it. The dialog is a little shaky at times but I assume that is because this is a translation to French. But the characters are well rounded and the art is pretty good.

I'm not sure what came first this or Blade, but they are very similar as the both are about 1/2 vampires that kill vampires.

But all and all I will continue to get the series. And it helps that they have Ashly Woods covers.

Not sure what I want to start reading next. I have "100 greatest stories by Ray Bradbury", but its huge and I've read most of the stories before so maybe ill wait on that.

Punisher MAX TPB vol 1

Just finished reading this last night. It was very good. It had everything a good Punisher story should have, lots and lots of dead people and bullets.

Only thing I didn't like was the women bad guy, she was useless and was not critical to the plot. The dialog she was doing was horrible and useless. She just seemed to be taking up space.

But all in all it was good and I will start getting the other trades.

On a personal note. Allergies are killing me and I have a crap load of lawn work to do right now, should be fun.

Listening to some Gomez, I'm diggin it!

Just finished this trade last night. It was very good, great story telling. Although I'm not sure its going to make a good movie. The end might be a bit too hokey for people. But I liked it. I can see why its considered to be one of the best comics work ever. And of course it's set up for a sequel and you aren't really sure how it all works out. But the story is incredible.

So its been a while since I have posted, I’ve been busy. The wife goes out of town tonight and is going to be gone for 5 days. So my son and I will hang out for the week.

Monthly poker night was last night and I did ok. I think I probably broke even at the end of the night. Started to plan the annual all guys camping trip, so I’m going to post a few ideas that were discussed.

SECOND ROUND: Ron Bartell
Position: Cornerback/safety
Height, weight: 6-1, 208

Projected role: Howard will get a shot at a backup role at cornerback first, but ultimately could wind up at safety. Should contribute to special teams

All things we need help on. Corner and special teams. Happy with this pick.

THIRD ROUND: Oshiomogho "O.J." Atogwe
Position: Safety
Height, weight: 5-11, 203

Projected role: The Rams are thin at safety - particularly if veteran Adam Archuleta is slow to recover from a back injury. Atogwe should be among several competitors for a starting job.

Again we need help at Safety.....But I think we needed more of a run support type player. We will see how this pans out.

THIRD ROUND: Richie Incognito
Position: Guard/tackle
Height, weight: 6-3, 305

Projected role: Recovery from knee surgery will keep Incognito out for several months. He could wind up on the injured reserve list. At best, he'll fill a reserve spot on the offensive line.

And here we go....We draft a player that is hurt.....Good job marts.

I wont bother putting the rest of the down. Its surprising that we didn't draft a WR till the 6th round though. And the POS we are weakest on......we didn't draft one fucking player. LB, oh well I have to guess that we are going after them in free agency. I know we already picked up a couple.....But who knows how they are going to pan out.

I started reading the TPB of Alan Moore's The Watchmen. And I'm kinda lost. I don't get it yet. It supposed to be one of the best comic book runs ever, and it seems corny so far. It doesn't help that I can't pronounce the main characters name. Its spelt Rorschach is it ROARSHACK? I've been calling him HORSHACK from Welcome Back Kotter. Hopefully it will pick up.

I got wayyyy to much reading to do.

Its Friday....I don't have to work tomorrow, so it should be a good day!

Nothing very exciting has been happening around here, except for the Jesus thing.
Started watching Revelations last night. I think I missed something because I'm all kinds of lost. Ill give it a couple of more episodes before I make any further judgment.

finally got to watch this weeks 24. It was another slow episode to set up the next couple. I know I shouldn't like this show. Its corny, unbelievable, but I still like it.

Also watched Scrubs. That is the funniest show on TV. That's all I can say.

Watched The Office. I still don't get it, I just don't think its all that funny. There is some funny parts, but all around I just don't think its funny. I guess cause I work in an "Office" environment, and its nothing like that. I was expecting like a weekly show of "Office Space", maybe that was my problem.....too high expectations.

WOW....I watched a lot last night. It was raining so I really couldn't do anything.

Anyway back to work and ill post more later.
